Following the announcement by Premier Daniel Andrews, restrictions in Victoria will be eased from 11.59pm tonight. 

Our trade stores and showrooms are open.

Construction can operate from tomorrow, and our trade stores and showrooms are open so support you to get back on the tools and doing your essential work as quickly as possible. 

You’ve got to carry a mask at all times. 

As announced, masks are mandatory indoors, as well as in outdoor environments where you can’t socially distance.

Victoria to Enter 5 Day Lockdown

Essential works can continue.

This means carrying out emergency repair works, ongoing critical infrastructure construction and any works required to support businesses can take place. Work permits won’t be required.

To help stop the spread of COVID-19, you’re required to wear a mask when leaving your home, from 6pm Sunday 31 January until 6pm Friday 5 February.

Today, Premier Gladys Berejiklian provided an update for Greater Sydney and the Northern Beaches in relation to the Covid-19 outbreak.

We will continue to stay open for business, supporting our customers, our people and the community. Our teams are committed to working hard so that essential service industries can keep our communities safe and well over the festive period.

Our trade branches and showrooms will remain open to all customers with restrictions on the number of people allowed in the branch. 

All NSW branches will have COVIDSafe practices in place. These include:

  • Extensive social distancing practices.

  • Continued healthy habits and hygiene practices, including use of hand sanitiser.

  • Encouraging the wearing of masks in branch.

  • Contact tracing – Every visitor to a branch must provide contact details.

  • Click and collect and contactless delivery is available, as well as access to online orders via maX.

COVID-19 Restrictios for South Australia

Today, Premier Steven Marshall announced what ‘circuit breaker’ restrictions will look like for South Australia – effective from 12:01am Thursday 19 November for six days, until midnight Tuesday 24 November.

All non-essential construction and maintenance work must be halted, however essential maintenance jobs that need immediate action can be carried out.

We are committed to supporting our customers, our people and the community. Our teams will continue to work hard, so that essential service industries can work to keep our communities safe and well.

In line with Government advice, we will be closing our showrooms over this six day period. 

Our trade branches will remain open to account customers only, to service those carrying out essential jobs. 

All branches will have COVIDSafe practices in place. These include:

  • Extensive social distancing practices

  • Continued healthy habits and hygiene practices, including use of hand sanitiser

  • Compulsory mask wearing – Everyone must wear a mask when visiting us in a branch. 

  • Contact tracing – Every visitor to a branch must provide contact details. 

  • Click and collect and contactless delivery is available, as well as access to online orders via maX.

Restrictions for construction and outdoor sole traders ease across metro Melbourne

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced a gradual easing of restrictions across metro Melbourne. Moving to the second step of the government roadmap means that restrictions have been relaxed for large scale construction sites and brings some good news for outdoor sole traders.

  • Gardeners and landscapers who work for themselves will be able to return to work from 11.59pm, Sunday 27 September.

  • Large-scale construction moves from ‘heavily restricted’ to ‘restricted’. This means the number of workers allowed onsite has increased from 25% to 85%, or 15 people, whichever is greater.

To enable this change:

  • construction sites must assign a COVIDSafe monitor; and

  • audit the existing High Risk COVIDSafe plan.

Roadmap to COVID normal

The Victorian Government has unveiled its roadmap to COVID normal.

For the trade, nothing has changed, and the outlook remains uncertain.

All construction sites must continue to have a COVIDSafe plan and you must wear a mask while working.

Metro Melbourne restrictions:

  • No more than one worker per four square meters in enclosed spaces

  • Small-scale construction sites are limited to five workers and one supervisor

  • Large-scale construction will be limited to 25% of their baseline workforce, or five employees, whichever is higher

Regional Victoria restrictions:

  • Where you can’t work from home, you are permitted to go to work

  • You may travel to work within metro Melbourne, where you can’t do so from home

The government has also provided its strongest indication yet its criteria to relax restrictions and return to a ‘COVID normal’.

When Victoria achieves no new cases for 28 days and no active cases state-wide, this will trigger a public health review with view to removing all restrictions.

Auckland Covid-19 enters alert level 3

From midday today, Auckland will enter Level 3 restrictions while the rest of New Zealand enters Level 2. 

Reece will stay open during these restrictions to support the essential work our customers do to keep the community safe and well.

In line with Government advice you will notice the following changes in branch: 

  • Our barriers will be in place to keep social distance between customers and our people. Our teams will aim to keep 2m between themselves while they work.

  • Continued healthy habits and hygiene practices .

  • As per the Prime Minister's advice, face masks are compulsory during level 3 in Auckland. Our teams will all be wearing masks and we ask they you do the same when visiting us in store. We’ll have spare masks available for you.

  • Some of our teams outside of Auckland may choose to wear a mask also. We’ll also have masks available for you if you wish to wear one.

  • For the purpose of contact tracing, we will request details from everyone who visits our stores.

  • Click and collect is available, as well as access to online orders via maX

There may be additional changes announced in the coming days and we’ll continue to keep our customers updated with any changes that will impact how they work with us and in the community.

The Government has released guidelines for businesses impacted by Melbourne’s Stage 4 restrictions.

These include specific guidelines for construction businesses—including tradies, site managers and business owners.

The latest updates can be found via Business Victoria here.

The guidelines detail everything from rules around carpooling to specific guidelines for small-scale and large-scale construction projects, across residential and commercial sectors.

If you are working onsite, or managing a project, it’s vital that you read through these guidelines carefully. As a reminder, every site needs the appropriate COVIDSafe Plan in place by 11:59pm Friday 7th August.

The Victorian Government has outlined the process for the ‘permitted worker scheme’.

You’ll need to carry a permit with you at all times across the Metropolitan Melbourne area, from midnight tonight, so you can continue your essential work. 

Employers need to complete the permit process on behalf of people who work for them, and the government have put in significant fines for any false information and working without a permit.

So, it’s important you get on to this today.

Here’s the what you need to do:

Download the template and complete it.

  • You can download the permit from the Department of Justice here.

  • Employers must use this template for all worker permits issued under this scheme.

Sign the worker permit. You can print and sign or sign it electronically.

  • Businesses must get an authorised person to sign the worker permit. This person might be the CEO, a HR manager, an operations manager or anyone else that is suitable.

  • They must be accountable for the details they provide.

  • They may be contacted by Victoria Police or other enforcement agencies to confirm the details.

Ask the employee to sign the worker permit. They can print and sign or sign electronically.

  • You can email or text the worker permit to your employee.

  • An employee may travel to work without a worker permit just one time, to get their first permit.

Yesterday, Premier Daniel Andrews announced what Stage 4 restrictions will look like for industries across Metro Melbourne, effective 11:59pm Wednesday 5th August, for six weeks.

While providing essential services during this period is challenging, tradies remain a vital cog to the health and safety of our community and are the lifeblood of the economy. 

We will be remaining open to support the essential work you do, and will keep you updated so that you can operate safely and remain on the tools.

What you need to know right now

1. Our trade stores will remain open and supply will not be impacted.

2. Only essential maintenance work can be carried out at homes and businesses
From 11.59pm Wednesday 5th August, only essential maintenance work that keeps communities safe and healthy can be carried out at homes and businesses.

This includes working to keep food cold in supermarkets, providing running water and heating, and ensuring sanitation. Non-essentials include cosmetic repairs or property updates.

3. All construction sites must have a COVID Safe Plan.
A COVID safe plan includes regular cleaning, one worker per four square metres of enclosed workspace or in shared areas and records of all personnel on site for more than 15 minutes. Sites must also prove that there is no blending or crossover of shifts.

There are two types of COVID Safe Plans; High Risk COVID Safe Plans for large-scale construction, state and civil projects, and Universal COVID Safe Plans for small-scale construction.

To make sure that your business is operating lawfully, with the correct plan, visit Business Victoria.

4. Small-scale construction projects can only have 5 crew onsite at any one time.
Construction projects under three storeys can continue with a maximum of 5 people onsite. Sites must have a Universal COVID Safe Plan to keep all workers safe.

5. Large-scale construction projects can continue with 25% of the usual working team.
For large scale construction (projects over three storeys excluding basements), a maximum of 25% of the normal working crew, including supervisors, are allowed onsite. Each site must have a High Risk COVID Safe plan.

6. State and state civil construction projects will go ahead without crew reductions.
Critical construction projects including state and state civil construction will go ahead, however sites will need to have a High Risk COVID safe Plan.

7. If you are currently working at a construction site, you cannot start working at any new sites over the next six weeks.
Where you are working on Thursday is the only site you can work on during this restriction period. However, we know that industry bodies have voiced concerns about this restriction — watch this space for updates.

8. Financial support packages are coming.
The Victorian and Federal Governments have announced financial support for businesses impacted by these new restrictions. We will keep you informed of updates as they happen.

It’s essential that plumbers continue to help prevent disease

As the state of Victoria faces one of its toughest challenges yet, we’re doing everything we can to support tradies in keeping the community healthy and safe.

Following the announcement of Level 4 restrictions across metropolitan Melbourne, we have moved quickly to ensure we continue to provide the level of service our customers demand, and the community expects.

“The heart of our business is supporting the repair and maintenance plumber, the small local tradie. Providing clean water and sanitation is critical, particularly during a health crisis such as this,” says Peter Wilson, Group CEO, Reece Group.

In 1919, when the Spanish flu ravaged the world, the plumber became essential to society – ensuring people had access to clean water and sanitation in their homes, to stop the acceleration of the virus – coining the phase, “Doctors Cure, Plumbers Prevent”.

“Our current crisis is no different – plumbers play a key role in preventing disease, we must do everything we can to enable our plumbers to support the Victorian Community”, Mr Wilson said.

Since the pandemic began, Reece has continued to keep our people and the community safe. Since March, the Reece Group has taken significant steps to achieve this:

  • Our social distancing approach was an industry first, successfully keeping our people and customers well.

  • Our 450 Melbourne based head office team have been working from home – supporting our 5000 people and 640 branches across the country remotely.

“Our network also has the experience required to navigate the new normal across Victoria, as we have been through the lockdown in New Zealand. In NZ, we supported the community with the provision of essential services during Stage 4 restrictions,” says Mr Wilson.

Overnight, the Reece Group held discussions with Government and industry, as the next stage of restrictions are being worked through. Our aim is to support all sectors in finding the right balance of keeping the community healthy and well, while keeping the economy moving.

Government support is critical to helping some businesses to get through COVID-19. We’ve taken the time to make sense of the support available and how it can benefit you.

JobTrainer

The Australian Government has announced a $2 billion JobTrainer skills package. This money will reform the vocational education and training sector and help keep apprentices in jobs. Ensuring the country will continue to have the skills we need now and into the future.

Further to the 50 per cent wage subsidy announced in March, the latest package will retrain and upskill 340,000 Australian school leavers and job seekers.

JobKeeper

Under the JobKeeper payment, businesses impacted by COVID-19 will be able to access a subsidy to continue paying their employees. The Federal Government will provide a fortnightly payment of $1500 per eligible employee until 27 September 2020.

Increase to the Instant Asset Write-Off

The instant asset write-off threshold has been increased from $30,000 to $150,000 and expanded access to include businesses with aggregated annual turnover of less than $500 million (up from $50 million). This applies from 12 March until 31 December this year, for new or second‑hand assets first used or installed ready for use during this time.

For businesses in the Melbourne metropolitan region and Mitchell Shire, additional support is available through the current level three restrictions.

Victorian Government Business Support Package

The Victorian Government has announced a $534 million Business Support Package for struggling businesses. It includes cash grants, mental health support for business owners and tailored advice for businesses to adapt and stay afloat through COVID-19.

The expanded Business Support Fund will provide more than 80,000 eligible businesses with a new $5,000 grant to support them through the renewed restrictions. This grant was previously made available to the 12 postcodes linked to outbreaks. It will now apply to all areas under Stage 3 restrictions.

Restrictions reintroduced across Metro Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire

Today metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire entered stage three restrictions which are expected to last for six weeks. 

As an essential service, we are keeping our doors open to support our customers who have an important job to do, to keep the community comfortable and well in their homes.

We have extensive social distancing and hygiene protocols in place across all our branches to ensure our people and customers are safe and healthy.

In regional Victoria we will be complying with the government direction to request identification from all non-account customers who visit our stores, for record-keeping purposes. We have an obligation to refuse service to non-account customers who live in metropolitan Melbourne or Mitchell Shire. 

Our account customers, who are tradespeople, are considered an essential service therefore are able to travel between metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria for work, and we maintain electronic records of these transactions. 

If you are not an account customer and you plan on visiting one of our showrooms or branches in regional Victoria, please bring your identification and help us keep each other safe by complying with our record-keeping and health and safety protocols.

Keeping you and our people safe

New Social Distancing protocol

In continuing to help keep you and our people safe we’ve introduced some new protocols in our stores and with our onsite deliveries.

In store:

To allow for the required social distancing of 1.5m, we’ve calculated how many customers we can accommodate in each store at any one time.

In the event the store you’re visiting is at capacity, you’ll be asked to stand in the marked waiting area until there’s space to serve you.

Delivery:

As a result of the 1.5m social distancing, we are no longer able to have 2 people in our delivery vehicles. In response, we’ve updated where and what we deliver.

Pipe & products longer than 1.5m

We’ll continue to deliver pipe and other products longer than 1.5m as we can maintain social distance.

Machinery required for unload

When items in Reece vehicles are to be unloaded by machinery onsite, e.g. crane, forklift, we will require our driver to exit the vehicle and find a safe standing zone with 1.5m social distancing in practice.

All other orders: contactless delivery zone

We’ll be asking you to provide a contactless delivery zone for drivers to drop-off product. If a contactless delivery zone isn't made available, the driver may elect to unload off the back of the vehicle - it will then be a requirement for the customer to move the goods into their required area.

e.g. large products such as HWU or baths where 1.5m social distancing can take place our driver will be able to unload products with the assistance of another person onsite required.

For products where 1.5m social distancing can’t be maintained, e.g. vanity units less than 1500mm, air conditioning units, condensing units etc, 2 people from the site will be required to unload the product other than our driver.

Last night the Government made a series of announcements to further slow the spread of the Coronavirus, our business services are considered “essential services” so we’re open and operating.

While we have social distancing in place, you can expect the same friendly faces serving behind the counter.

We will continue to support you and the community in providing essential services, so you can:

  • Continue to visit us in store - please respect the measures in place for your safety

  • Order on maX

  • Use click and collect to grab your items

We’re encouraging you to:

  • Be conscious of personal space, maintain 1.5 metres distance where possible, and avoid handshaking

  • Ensure all your team members who are on the road are practising healthy habits, e.g. washing hands once in branch, access to sanitisers, tissues, etc.

  • Be respectful of the measures we’ve put in place in our branches, they are in the best interests of everyone

  • Let your Home Branch Manager know if you are presenting symptoms, and please refrain from ‘visiting’ if you feel sick

Maintaining essential services through social distancing

Reece is taking its responsibility to keep its doors open throughout the coronavirus outbreak seriously and putting the health of its people, customers and the community first.

Social distancing measures have been put in place across our branches to ensure our people and customers stay healthy and well, while providing an essential service to the community.

Chief Operations Officer Daniel Palumbo says that as staying home becomes more important to slow the spread of the virus, Reece will make sure our customers have the support they need to maintain standards of living for the community.

“Our customers provide a vital service by keeping the water running, and maintaining hygiene and sanitation at this time is incredibly important,” he said.

“We are making sure our branches are a safe and healthy environment and that our customers have access to all the information they need to keep themselves and our community protected,”

“We’re implementing advice from all official sources including the Prime Minister’s update earlier today and social distancing is one of the best ways we can protect ourselves, and the community, from the spread of coronavirus.”

Throughout its branches across Australia and New Zealand Reece has implemented 1.5m distancing barriers, contactless product collection zones, regular cleaning and disinfecting practices and information sharing to keep our people, customers and the community up to date.

“We’ve been incredibly heartened to see how our community has banded together to do their bit to slow the spread of coronavirus,” Daniel said.

“In particular we want to thank our people and customers who are following advice, acting quickly to keep each other safe and getting on with the job.”

  • We’ve upped our cleaning in our branches to make sure we’re disinfecting shared areas like the café bar, counters and bathrooms

Customer Update:

The health, safety and well-being of our customers, our people and the community are our top priority, and we’re continuing to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic very closely.

Our supply chain is functioning well and, to date, has not been impacted. We‘ll continue to share updates at relevant times. We have business continuity plans in place to ensure we can maintain supply and operations.

We’re keeping our teams up to date on how we can do our bit to slow the spread of the virus and have taken additional precautions which include:

Restrictions and containment – we’ve stopped all non-essential work travel and minimised the broader movement of our people to focus on business critical travel
Self-reporting – anyone who has travelled outside of Australia, and/or is presenting with symptoms is required to self-quarantine
Healthy Habits – we‘ve been running a ‘Healthy Habits’ campaign encouraging our people, customers and our suppliers to practice appropriate hygiene practices
Formal reporting – In the event a team member does test positive for COVID-19 we have measures in place to support our people to seek treatment and self-isolate and to communicate with people they have been in contact with recently


What we’re encouraging you to do:

• When you come to visit us be conscious of personal space, maintain 1.5 metres distance where possible, and avoid handshaking
• Ensure all your team members who are on the road are practising healthy habits, e.g. washing hands once in branch, access to sanitisers, tissues, etc.
• Please be respectful of the measures we’ve put in place in our branches, they are in the best interests of everyone
• If you are presenting with symptoms, and have visited us in the last fortnight, please let your Home Branch Manager know, and please refrain from ‘visiting’ if you feel sick. maX is a great way to place an online order.

As you’d know, the World Health Organisation has declared the coronavirus a global pandemic - this means the virus will impact all countries in some way.

We’re taking the health and wellbeing of our people and our customers very seriously, as well as doing all we can as a business to slow the spread of this virus across the community.

Our approach is to build containment strategies for the network, our distribution centres, and the support centre. Our aim is to maintain productivity, while limiting the spread of the virus. The services Reece provides will become essential over the coming weeks and we want to do everything we can to support our customers and the community.
